Housing

Hood River is a destination community blessed with natural beauty and a vibrant downtown. At the same time, it is faced with challenges – many of which are common to communities supported by tourism – that call for creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.  It is understood that:

  • High demand has driven up the cost of homeownership in the community;
  • There is an insufficient supply of long-term rental housing;
  • Renters and owners are challenged to find affordable homes in Hood River.

Review the 2015 Housing Needs Analysis, Summary Report and Housing Strategies.

In response to the 2015 Housing Needs Analysis the city council endorsed three broad housing strategies including: 1) Increase the efficiency of use of land within the Hood River Urban Growth Boundary; 2) Regulate and manage secondary and short-term rental housing; and 3) Develop affordable housing.

Public hearings will be held by the planning commission and/or city council prior to adoption of code amendments that are intended to address the housing strategies.
