A resolution supporting ODOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Grant Application
WHEREAS, currently, 1 out of every 3 children in our nation are overweight or obese, and
Whereas, with the many co-morbid diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease occurring sooner in this generation they are the first generation anticipated to have a shorter life expectancy than that of their parents, and
Whereas, The Happy Wheels Foundation, a grassroots, non-profit organization, is dedicated to reversing childhood obesity by facilitating children to cycle more and eat healthier, and
Whereas, The City Council of the City of Hood River supports the mission of the Happy Wheels Foundation, and
Whereas, The Happy Wheels Foundation is making application for a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the construction of a bike lane on May Street from 17th to 30th Street to facilitate the children in our community to safely commute to school on bikes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Hood River City Council that:
The Council of the City of Hood River supports the Happy Wheels Foundation’s Project and application to ODOT requesting SRTS funds for the May Street Bike Lane Project.
