WHEREAS, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for the Local Government Grant Program for Oregon 150's Youth Legacy Projects; and
WHEREAS, these grant funds are dedicated to getting children out into nature, and will also have a sesquicentennial commemorative aspect; and
WHEREAS, childhood obesity is on the rise, leading to major health problems; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hood River desires to participate in this grant program to the greatest extent possible as a means of providing needed park and recreation acquisitions, improvements and enhancements; and
WHEREAS, the City of HR wants to help reconnect kids with nature through engaging children in the out of doors; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hood River proposes to purchase, assemble, and install playground equipment as part of developing the Hood River Waterfront Park, a community park on a 6-acre waterfront parcel; and
WHEREAS, the applicant hereby certifies that the matching share for this application is readily available at this time; and
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City of Hood River be authorized to apply for a Local Government Grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for park improvements at The Hood River Waterfront Park as specified above and that the City Manager is authorized to sign the application.
Approved by the Hood River City Council the 1st day of July, 2008, to take effect immediately.
