Leaf Pickup Information

Due to budget restrictions and personnel layoffs, the City Public Works Department will NOT conduct its annual fall leaf pickup along public streets this fall.

Beginning October 26th City residents may dispose of leaves at the City Public Works facility at 18th & May Streets.  Disposal hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Please check in at the office before dropping off leaves. Residents will be required to empty any bagged leaves.

Pine needles, branches and other brush will not be accepted by the City.  The Hood River Transfer Station at 3440 Guignard Road (386-4676) will accept this type of debris.  Disposal of residential debris at the Transfer Station is free every Wednesday.  

Residents are reminded that leaves must not be raked into the gutter.  This is a violation of the Hood River Municipal Code and the leaves can plug the storm drains and cause flooding. 

If you would like to have leaves for mulch, please call Jan Morris at 387-5201 with your name, address and phone number.

Mission Statement

The Public Works Department maintains the City’s infrastructure to support the growing Hood River community while promoting public health and safety. The Public Works Department’s responsibilities include streets, parking meters, parks, the sanitary sewer and stormwater collection systems, and the water system. The Public Works staff also operates and maintains City-owned facilities and equipment and provides professional and technical support to other City departments.
