(A resolution adopting a policy against smoking in public parks)
WHEREAS, the City has numerous public parks;
WHEREAS, medical evidence shows that people who are subject to second hand smoke from smoking tobacco are statistically more likely to suffer respiratory illnesses and other ill side-effects of tobacco smoke;
WHEREAS, park visitors who do not smoke who visit City parks should not be subjected to second hand tobacco smoke;
WHEREAS, the cleanliness and ability to enjoy public parks is substantially diminished by discarded cigarette butts and other litter from smoking tobacco products.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Hood River City Council that:
It shall be the policy of the City of Hood River that smoking tobacco is prohibited in the City’s public parks.
Approved by the Hood River City Council the ______ day of ________________, 2007, to take effect immediately.
